:LAYOUT: brush like a monkey?

Here it is...my first layout published by Scrapbook Trends magazine.

It is in the November 2008 issue and I just received it in the mail the other day.

As always, there are some amazing layouts, cards and other project ideas in this issue. This magazine is really more like an idea book than a magazine with its beautiful presentation and wonderful ideas!

I was so excited when I received this layout request several months ago because I have been submitting to them for A LONG TIME and I've always been really impressed with the quality of their magazine and the layouts that they print.

To be 'in the ST club' is such an honor!

Supplies:

Journaling:
Throughout the year, Kaitlin’s class got to go on several field trips. This one was to the dentist’s office.

(1) They got to watch a video of a monkey showing them how to properly brush their teeth.
(2) All the kids also got to test out the dentist's chair.
(3) And for the demonstration…this Styrofoam cup is a healthy, pearly white tooth.
(4) This is your tooth after eating too many sugary snacks and drinks (add chocolate syrup and sprinkles).
(5) This is what your own saliva (acetone) will do to your teeth if you eat too many sugary snacks and drinks and/or do not brush your teeth properly.

Judging from all exclamations of 'Ewww!', 'Gross!', and 'Yucky!', I would have to say that the demonstration was successful. She is suddenly more interested in brushing her teeth. Monkey see, monkey do...

Comments & Techniques:
To help keep the slant of the layout consistent, I used the strips of patterned paper at the top and bottom of the layout. The parenthesis after the first part of the title (“brush”) points to the continuation of the title on the other side of the main photo. I wanted to add a little extra to the title, so I found a cute little clip art monkey (actually Curious George) and placed him so that it looks as though his sitting on top of the title. The numbers on the photos correspond with the numbered parts of the journaling.
