REVIEW & GIVEAWAY: Scrapbooking for Baby from the Editors of Scrapbooks etc. (CONTEST CLOSED)

While Scrapbooking for Baby from Better Homes & Gardens may not contain anything new for advanced scrapbookers, the entry level content makes sense for an idea book focused on babies. After all, isn't the birth of a baby often what gets many started in this wonderful hobby?

Also, I can honestly say that I desperately wish I had had access to this book when I started scrapbooking so many years ago. The sage advice and tips held within its covers could have saved me from many early 'mistakes'...and probably some money, too!!

In total, the book includes 9 main categories (or chapters):

#1 - Get Started
This section is basically a tutorial for new scrappers on what they'll need to record the highlights of everything baby. It includes guidelines for the core ingredients, how to put them together, tools of the trade, basic techniques and organization.

#2 - Pregnancy & Preparation
This section includes 17 layouts with ideas covering the discovery, anticipation, fears and more in the months before the baby arrives. This chapter also has a bonus box including numerous tips in dealing with delicate ultrasound pictures.

#3 - Welcoming Baby
This section also includes 17 layouts with ideas covering everything from recording the first moments in the birthing room to what things cost at the time you baby is born. Also includes tips on taking newborn photos and making unique baby announcements using your supplies. The end of this section offers up a simple formula for a Visitors Album and a Brag Book.

#4 - Milestones & Development
This section covers the obvious - first steps, first bath and more - but there are also many other ideas for firsts to cover that you might not have thought of in new and interesting ways. 35 layout samples are included. This chapter includes a simple framework for a great timeline album.

#5 - Daily Life
The biggest section in the book - boasting 44 layouts - it goes to show that the daily activities are just as important to document as the big events. After all, what seems like mundane routine might be gone altogether tomorrow with a growing child in your house. This section also has some great tips for organizing your photos and making journaling a little less painful and time consuming if you're suffering from writer's block. At the end, the framework for daily life and 1st year albums are featured.

#6 - Personality & Relationships
Includes 28 layout samples showing you how to "chronicle your little one's developing persona" and the growing bonds with family members. Also includes tips on how to get successful photos of you busy little one. The album featured in this section is a digital one using Epson's Storyteller Kit. There are three versions of the same album included - from super simpler to beautifully embellished - so that you can decide which level is right for you.

#7 - Special Events
This is perhaps the most obvious of subjects for most scrapbookers and this section gives you 17 layouts to help you scrap the holidays, birthdays and more. There are also several tips for unique birthday photos included and a 'year of event's album framework using a calendar for its foundation.

#8 - Gifts for Baby
Includes 8 ideas for super sweet gifts for any baby or new mom.

#9 - Finishing Touches
Now that the basics have all been covered, this section offers 8 techniques (with step-by-step instructions) to help you kick it up a notch.

No, not a new baby, but 2 young children at the time I started. Eventually we adopted 3 more so I have lots of opportunities to scrapbook my kids. My 2 bio kids have a baby album but my 3 adopted only have a few pictures so one day I want to do an adoption album for them.
I started Scrapbooking years ago, but I really didn't do a lot, because I didn't feel like I really had anything to scrapbook. However with the birth of my twins last year I really got back into it. I have been working on their scrapbooks now and was hoping to be able to finish by their first birthday which is in 2 weeks. Doesn't look like that is going to happen though. This book will definately come in handy so I don't get even farther behind.
No, having a baby was not what got me started on scrapbooking. I had been a rubber stamper + cardmaker for years before venturing into scrapbooking. Actually my papercrafting just evolved into scrapbooking. Have always enjoyed working with paper so what else could I do but roll with it?! :)
It wasn't the birth of my child, but the birth of my brother's child. Before that I did make photoalbums, but in a more traditional way (just stick the photos and make comments, no paper or embellishments involved).
Hi there
I am still a novice - my best friend is expecting her first grandchild and we are scraping together
Cheers
Catie
I started scrapbooking back in the 70's the old fashioned way. It wasn't until I got a digital camera and starting posting pics on my blog, that I started scrapbooking the new way.(I'm not exactly a great photographer but with digital I can just delete the bad photos and start over!) I love papers and it just speaks to my creative soul.
I'm about to start one on my first grandbaby-I would love the help!
I've been a scrapbooker since Middle School, and I don't have any babies (yet!). But the birth of my two nephews definitely gives me plenty of scrapbooking inspiration. I love documenting their lives from birth!
I didn't walk into a scrapbooking store until my first child was about 1 year old - naturally, I caught the scrapping bug! I have a lot of baby pictures to scrap (it's easier for me to scrap the more recent events), especially with two kids!
I was on a path of running from one activity and committee obligations to another. I wanted to be more at home than away from home. Discovering scrapbooking was the most postive step in that direction and allowed me to start saying no, for more me time (to scrapbook).
Our DD#2 is having a baby girl this summer ..... she is a miracle baby. The whole family all over the world is so excited for our DD and new addition. We have never scrapbooked and now is the time I do believe. Thanks.
Yes, having a new baby was what got me started with scrapbooking!! I LOVE it!! Now that I'm expecting again, new baby layout ideas are just what I need to get out of my rut.

Thank you for your review & the giveaway!!

It was not having a new baby since mine are in their 20's but when they were in elementary school, they were in plays. I wanted a way to keep all these pictures together and a scrapbooker was born!
I actually started scrapbooking when I was in 6th grade, with my mom, after I took a trip to Washington D.C. We thought it would be a great way to show off my pics and tell a story. So I guess to answer the question, no the birth of a baby is not what started me scrapbooking, but scrapbooking baby stuff is still SO MUCH FUN! Thanks for the review and giveaway :)
June is the month my third grand daughter is to be born, I love doing baby pages and would love to win this book for great ideas and tips.

I had scrapbooked a few layouts here and there, but YES--having my baby was definitely the start of my serious scrapbooking!
actually my mum was sorting out things before she died and gave me a whole heap of old photos- it wasn't the ones of me that got me started it was the older ones of my ancestors that got me going- I copied them and asked her who each was and what they had done then made it into a book. now I'm a grandma I will be doing all my grandchildren ..
It's my ROM and wedding that started me into scrapbooking, then the birth of my children.
Nope - I wanted to document the relationship between my boyfriend and I. 5 years later, I'm still going strong, and I'm so glad that I started!
nope, I have been scrapbooking for years and I'm about to have my first child. =) I started scrapbooking when I was little and they were about trips that I took with my family. My uncle got me started...he scrapbooks all the places he travels to.
Yes, it was the birth of my son that got me started in scrapbooking and it titally saved me from the baby blues with my 2nd. While she would sleep I would scrap to relax. Nothing better than a little creative therapy!

No, I started scrapbooking after a few bigger trips in college. However, now that I have two babies I feel like a have a whole lot more to scrapbook... if only I had the time.
I started scrapbooking after our much delayed "honeymoon" to Hawaii. I had so many pictures and wanted to do something really special with them. By the time I was done, I was hooked.
yes, i started scrapbooking 3 years ago, after my first son was born. at that time I also was no longer working, and needed a creative outlet, so if I had gone back to work I might not have picked up the hobby.
I don't have a baby yet, but we are trying. I started scrapbooking after my wedding four years. I would love to win one and start documenting my future baby. Thanks!
Oh this would help me! I stopped paper scrapping when the kids came. Just too much stuff. But now I digi-scrap. It's so nice, if they need me, I just shut the computer!
