:REVIEW & GIVEAWAY: Scrapbooker's All-in-One Memory Log Book 2010

I can honestly say that I have never had the opportunity to review a book quite like the Scapbooker's All-in-One Memory Log Book 2010 designed by Kristin Rutten from Log Your Memory.

My first thought was, "Man, this book is substantial!" (388 pages substantial!)

While there a few layout samples included in the book, the focus is clearly on the STORIES hidden within your daily life. This book gives you a very effective tool to help you record those stories so that they end up in your scrapbooks and not lost somewhere in your mind or random scrap of paper.

Rather than an idea book full of eye candy that you'll flip through in an evening or two (not that these idea books don't have their place on our inspiratinal bookshelf as well ;) ), the Scrapbooker's All-in-One Memory Log Book 2010 is really more of a workbook that will take you through the entire year.

Let's see if you recognize yourself in any of these points mentioned by Kristin on page 5:

*If you want to share your story...the everyday activities, the celebrations, the quirks and funny things that happen...
*If you love scrapbooking but don't always have time to do a page when the idea strikes...
*If you've tried to document the details and now find yourself with an unorganized hodge-podge of sraps of paper, datebooks and half-filled notebooks...
*If you find inspiration in lots of different places...books, magazines, the work of others, online communities...
*If it is important to you to reflect your "real" life in your scrapbooking...

If you recognize yourself in one or more of these, this book is for YOU!

INSIDE THE BOOK:
*Monthly calendars for at-a-glance planning and recording.
*Daily calendars where you can jot down your schedule and extra space to make notes about things that happened that day.
*Your own personal "Story List" - a page where you can list the page ideas you have before you forget them!
*A weekly sketch page where you can map out your designs.
*Weekly challenge questions to get your creative juices flowing and tell the "real" story of your life. There is a main question, but also always several variations so that you can use whichever prompt speaks to you at the time.
*A monthly questionnaire to help you track how life changes over the course of the year.
*An annual questionnaire and price sheet to help set the stage for where you are in your life right now and the workd you live in.
*Monthly worksheets for documenting family holidays, plus extra pages at the back of the book for birthdays and other celebrations.
*A handy list of 2011 holidays.

Kristin states in the introduction:
"Think of this book as a framework...If a question doesn't speak to you, don't answer it. If you get an idea but it's not exactly what was suggested, run with it. This book is for you and it's up to you to make it your own."

Personally, I am quite excited about the year ahead and the place this book will take in my creative process!!

GIVEAWAY:
And, YOU should be excited also because Kristin is feeling quite generous! She has kindly offered the following for a random giveaway to A Matter of Memories readers:

I plan to organize my scrap space and use it at least 3 times a week. I also want to submit at least twice this year to try and get my work published. How's that for resolutions!
My new years resolutions all include building my relationships - with God, with my family, and with my friends. Hopefully, I can showcase those relationships in more of my pages!
My new years resolution for crafting is that I will work until I open a magazine and see something I made in it ! I know its a lofty goal...but I REALLLLLY want to get published someplace so I can scrapbook the magazine...hehe
And I had a hysterectomy three months ago....I cant remember anything since....lol....I NEED this book ! If I dont win it here....Im totally buying it....If I do win it.....I am buying it for my best friend !!!!!
Thanks for the review, Jill!!! And good luck to everyone hoping for a chance in the giveaway! :)
I'm planning on taking a photo a day, and then doing the 365 scrapbook challenge. I can't wait to see my life, one photo at a time, at the end of the year. I'll definitely be making an album or Shutterfly book with these.

Thanks for this giveaway, Jill Marie! I have resolved that I cannot buy any new scrapping supplies until the end of each month in an effort to use the ever growing stash of products I have. I am also going to do the 365 project this year and take a photo a day.
I am planning to do Debby's Dare this year which is Handmade Home. I'll end up with a scrapbook of 52 layouts that highlight our family's recipes. I'm also hoping to do an album all about me using prompts from last year's dare. Also, I'm going to not buy new scrapping products until I check my stash thoroughly to make sure I don't have a suitable substitute. I would LOVE to own this Memory Log book. Thanks for the opportunity to win!
I am definitely planning on focusing on getting more scrapbook layouts created. I have so many things I don't want to forget so I can see a place for this book in my life. Thanks for the opportunity to win one.
I plan on organizing my scraproom ( which will be a major job).I plan on scrapping my daughter's senior year.I plan on scrapping atleast 3 times a week and trying new things outside my box.I want to try to get better about sending out cards for birthdays and holidays.I would love to remember the things my son says so they'll be in his scrapbook for him to look back at later.I would also like to try to get my blog going and scrapbook for family memebers.Thank you for this chance.
My new year's resolution is to save up to finish up my scrappy room. Currently we just moved my small scrappy area to the extra room we have in the house. painted it a lavender plum color. I have 2 old old hand me down brown office desks in there that DO NOT match my white moldings! lol I have to save up for wood to build shelving, storage bench, lighting, and misc storage bins (esp 12x12 paper storage bins). But my husband will be the one building everything. Also for a stand-alone desk. I'm hoping by this time next year - i'll have my scrappy room all finished and furnished with TONS of inspiration! ^_^

thank you for this awesome giveaway!

My big resolution for 2010 is to finally get caught up on 5 years of pictures and start a new book on our girl scouting adventures
One of my resolutions is to watch TV less (even though I'm usually hanging out with one of my kids), scrapbook more and keep my scrap space cleaned up and not used for all my other "stuff". I'm also doing the 365 day project again. I did this last year and love it, though it is a LOT to keep up with (plus I put together the kit myself).
I really got caught up in swaps and cards this year... I only completed two actual layouts!!! My resolution for 2010 is to work on more layouts. AND to start on those homemade Christmas presents in February, not in November and December!!!
This books sounds awesome....I may have to get it if I don't win! My New Years Scrappin' Resolution is to finish my wedding album by June and begin my nephew's album shortly after. I hope I can follow through!
I generally don't do New Year's Resolutions pertaining to my life, per say. This year I have a goal of scrapping our lives, not just the pictures.
What a great new product for scrapbookers! I plan on participating in Project 365. I wanted to do it last year but didn't get around to it.
gosh, where do I start? My #1 resolution is to get back on my weight loss/exercise plan. I have cheated so much over the holiday. I am also going to try to organize my stash so that my desk will be clean and I will be able to find things easier. Happy new Year.

Jill...this book sounds really cool!! Let's see...my goals pre-wedding would be to scrap my guest book (inspired by the one you did for Lynners) and to think of something totally different/cool for the invites. Post-wedding, I'll have to get back to working on my brother and sister's books...until I get the wedding pictures back...then you know what I'll be doing :)

My new years resolution would have to start with losing weight and getting healthy. Then I would have to say remodeling a basement room to be my new scrapbooking room and specifically plan few days to scrapbook a few times a month and stay ahead.
I don't have any resolutions. I figure they are just for breaking, anyway. I have some things I'd like to accomplish and if I do, I will be so happy for it! If not - that means I did some other great stuff I don't even know is coming my way yet! That's fun, too!
I've been looking at this book for over a month now, trying to decide if I should get it or not. Thanks for the review!

My resolution related to my scrapbooking is to scrap pages and albums other then for my kids' books more often. I bought stuff yesterday to actually work on my honeymoon album. I hope to get it done before our 8th anniversary next October!
My new years resolution is to take more time to be creative. I have a list of projects I would like to finish sometime in the next century.
The review sounds wonderful..As for resolutions or ideas....I would be happy to take more time for myself creatively without limiting myself.
Wow! A fantastic giveaway... one of my resolutions is to scrap a page a week for each of my kids. My oldest is 2 and I have NOT A SINGLE PAGE done for him since he was born. My youngest is 5 months so I'd like to stay somewhat up to date with her and catch up with my son over the course of the year. With two little ones, two pages a week is going to be tough, but I'm going to keep my goal in mind - to document their life creatively - and not get lost in the fun stuff (although I'm addicted to chipboard, lol).
WOW!! What a great chance, thanks!! I want to get all my scrapbook stuff organized, loose some weight and learn to eat more healthy, finish one of my scrapbook books and get it printed!
